I looked at a number of places for topsoil and found that van der Linde not only had good quality products, but the delivery was readily available and very cost-effective. The delivery went well with the driver very willing to dump the load as I requested. One other supplier said they could not guarantee delivery as requested and did not come out to inspect the area after saying that he wanted to review the location before committing to a delivery. Good quality product, good quality service, good prices, and good people. I will be back for mulch in the Spring. – Ray Friedman

Topsoil may assist with flower and garden bed maintenance.A fresh layer of topsoil is one of the finest ways to replenish the nutrients that your plants require. Topsoil contains decomposed plant matter (or organic matter) that serves to nourish your plants.
Color is a simple method to identify dirt. It is usually the darkest layer of soil due to the high quantities of organic materials. Measure the depth of topsoil to the point when the soil beneath lightens in color or changes texture (usually becoming more clayey).
When properly stored, bagged topsoil can last up to 8 years. When applied to gardens, bagged topsoil should be supplemented with fertilizer or compost. This adds nutrients and organic material to the soil, creating a favorable environment for plant roots. Here at van der Linde Recycling, our topsoil is a byproduct of our mulch production and often comes from stump roots. This means it may already contain organic material and nutrients.
Plants rely on topsoil—the earth's surface's outermost layer—for water and nutrients. The more organic stuff there is, the darker the soil will appear. This sort of soil is simple to dig and promotes healthy plant growth.
Topsoil provides nutrients while also allowing more oxygen to enter plant roots, resulting in improved plant health and growth overall. It also encourages plants to grow deeper roots, resulting in better drainage and reduced soil erosion.
The following benefits of soil organic matter can help to replenish and build your soil:
• Helps to avoid surface sealing, runoff, and erosion.
• Enhances water infiltration.
• Provides energy to soil microorganisms.
• Acts as a glue to hold soil particles together.
• Aids in the improvement of soil aeration.
• Serves as a slow-release nutrient storage facility.
Humus Layer. This refers to the uppermost layer of soil rich in organic material and microorganisms, essential for plant growth.
Simply measure the size of the area you want to cover and multiply by the depth required to get how much topsoil you'll need or use the calculator on our mulch page.
