  • What is the best place to get rid of a decent mattress?

    Many recycling centers don't have the resources to recycle mattresses. At van der Linde Recycling we have a dedicated team and facility for recycling mattresses. And if the mattress is in good shape, our affiliate, petespickup.com will store it in their Furniture Bank which helps get them to those in need.

  • What happens when you recycle a mattress?

    It is stripped, baled, and send to manufacturers to be turned into other items. For instance, foam from your mattress will be cleaned and turned into new things like carpet padding. It may even be used to make another mattress.

  • Why is there a cost to dispose of mattresses?

    Mattresses are  80-90% recyclable, but the materials must be stripped and seperated by hand, making the  process time-consuming and costly. 

  • How can mattresses be recycled or reused?


    • Bring them to can der Linde Recycling for processing!

    • Gift it to a family member or friend.
    • Give it to a nonprofit that repurposes furniture. 
    • Post it on Freecycle, Freegle, or in a local Facebook group.

  • Can I throw away a mattress?

    You can, but if you take it to the dump, your mattress will be one of about 20 million that wind up there every year, creating an environmental hazard and taking up roughly a cubic yard of landfill space per mattress. Recycle it here at van der Linde where it will be separated and sent to a companies that will reuse the materials.
